One of my favourite wedding venues anywhere. Beautiful, eccentric, welcoming and completely unmistakable.

My reaction to a Northridge inquiry
I love seeing Northridge on an inquiry.
When a couple contacts me and tells me that they are getting married at The Northridge Inn & Resort, I get genuinely excited.
There are two reasons.
The first is that I get to go back to one of my favourite venues.
The second is that I already have a pretty good feeling about the couple.
Because Northridge is pure vibes.
There is something about this place that seems to attract people who want their wedding to feel a little different — relaxed, beautiful, fun and completely their own.
And Northridge gives them an incredible place to do it.
The venue is the decor
You can point a camera almost anywhere.
Northridge does not need to be transformed into somewhere interesting for a wedding. It already is.
For photographers, this place must be a dream. The property is full of incredible little vignettes, and everywhere you look someone has made a choice.
The furniture. The art. The flowers. The signs. The colours. The objects tucked into corners.
Things that might somehow feel completely out of place anywhere else just belong here.
That is one of my favourite things about the property. Bringing a huge amount of additional decor almost feels unnecessary because Northridge already has such a strong personality.
The venue is the decor.
It is so unique and so completely Northridge that there really is nowhere else that looks quite like it.
Even the bridal suite is the shiniest Airstream I've ever seen. Of course it is. Because you're at Northridge.
Lake Bernard
And then there is the pier.
The ceremony location stretching out over Lake Bernard is striking in its simplicity.
There is not much competing for your attention. You have the couple, their guests, the white pier and this enormous uninterrupted expanse of water stretching out behind them.
Lake Bernard is famously known for having no islands, which gives the view an incredible sense of openness.
It does not need anything else.
A ceremony on the water
Walk through the doors and out onto the lake.
Even before the flowers and the guests arrive, the setting feels dramatic.
When Muskoka weather has other plans
The rain plan still feels like Northridge.
Outdoor weddings always need a Plan B.
What I like about Northridge is that moving the ceremony under cover does not suddenly make the celebration feel disconnected from the property.
You still have the wood, flowers, warm lights, trees and Lake Bernard just beyond the open side.
Even with the rain coming down outside, it still feels beautiful.
The weather changes. The setting doesn't disappear.
Under the canoe
And then the same space becomes a party.
This is one of those rooms that looks great before anyone arrives and even better once it is full.
I love watching this space change over the course of the day.
In daylight, the lake and trees pull your attention outside. Then the sun goes down, the Edison bulbs start glowing and suddenly everyone is dancing underneath an enormous canoe.
It is intimate enough that the room feels connected, but open enough that you never forget where you are.
There is nowhere else that looks or feels quite like it.
The Northridge wedding weekend
Sometimes the wedding doesn't end that night.
Some of my favourite weekends at Northridge have started with the wedding on Friday and continued right into a pool party that I DJ'd the next day.
I love that kind of wedding.
There is something wonderful about removing the pressure to fit absolutely everything into a single day.
The whole weekend gets to breathe. And the music can breathe with it.
On Friday, I can build the atmosphere through the ceremony, cocktails and dinner before taking everyone into the dance.
Then Saturday arrives. The sun is out. People wander down to the pool. Conversations replace speeches and formalities, and the soundtrack changes with them.
For me, that is an opportunity to do something I really love: orchestrate the ambience of an entire weekend rather than simply DJ the dance.
The music does not always need to demand your attention. Sometimes its job is simply to make an already wonderful place feel even better.
The people make the place
Arriving at Northridge feels like coming home.
As remarkable as the property is, this may actually be my favourite part of Northridge: the people.
David and Stéphane have created something that somehow feels theatrical, beautiful, eccentric and completely relaxed at the same time.
I love what they have built, and I would jump at the opportunity to work with them again.
That warmth extends through the entire team.
They are cool, welcoming, accommodating and extraordinarily good at what they do.
After returning to Northridge again and again, walking onto the property no longer feels like arriving at another job.
It feels like seeing family.
And Kate is simply one of the best event managers I have ever worked with.
As a wedding DJ, that matters enormously.
The best weddings happen when everyone behind the scenes is communicating, adapting and quietly making things happen without the couple ever needing to know there was something to solve.
That is Northridge.
I need to talk about the food
This does not feel like eating a vendor meal.
Being a wedding DJ means I have eaten a lot of meals at wedding venues. Northridge is different.
The food is incredible.
I remember feeling lucky the first time I had an opportunity to eat there. Somehow I have now found myself sitting down to another meal at Northridge again and again, and I still feel grateful every time.
Bronwyn is an exceptional chef.
There are certainly perks to being a wedding DJ. This is one of them.
Stay for the weekend
My favourite place to sleep? The glamping tents.
There are plenty of ways to stay at Northridge, from rooms and suites to chalets and some much more unusual options.
My favourite is the glamping tents.
They fit the property perfectly: comfortable, unexpected, charming and considerably more interesting than simply walking down a hotel hallway at the end of the night.
And then there is that Airstream.
Which, really, could describe Northridge itself: completely unexpected and somehow exactly right.
When the party cannot stop
We bring it inside and let the bass keep bumping.
Under the canoe is a wonderful place to dance.
But some nights reach the point where nobody is interested in going to bed yet.
That is when the party can move inside to the bar, close in a little tighter and keep going.
I love weddings that evolve like that.
The ceremony does not feel disconnected from dinner. Dinner does not feel disconnected from the dance. And even when the party changes rooms, it still feels like the same celebration moving through this incredible property.
If everybody still wants to dance, I am very happy to keep playing.
One of my favourite venues
I can't wait to go back.
There are venues I enjoy working at.
There are venues I recommend.
And then there are venues where seeing the name on an inquiry immediately puts a smile on my face.
The Northridge Inn & Resort is one of those places.
Maybe it is the pier.
Maybe it is the Airstream.
Maybe it is dancing under a canoe.
Maybe it is the food.
Maybe it is David, Stéphane, Kate and the entire team making you feel like you have come home.
It is probably all of it.
All I know is that every time I leave Northridge, I look forward to the next couple who gives me a reason to come back.
