A music-first philosophy

Everyone has a soundtrack.

A Special Request began with one friend, one playlist and one question: “We love these songs, but I’m not a DJ. Could you mix these for me?”

The idea behind the series

I do not start with genres.
I start with people.

Why it matters

Music can say what a playlist cannot.

A playlist is a collection of songs. A DJ mix is a relationship between them: memories placed beside one another, moods allowed to rise and fall, and familiar music heard in a new way.

The songs people choose reveal where they came from, who they love and what still makes them stop everything when it comes through the speakers.

A Special Request 001

The Gift

A close friend brought me a playlist of songs that he and his partner loved. “We love these songs, but I’m not a DJ. Could you mix these for me?” I did, right there. He gave the recording to her as a gift: an archive of a moment in their lives, told through music.

The Birthday

When another friend heard about the first mix, she asked why I had not mixed her playlist yet. The answer was simple: she had not sent it. A month later, at her birthday party, I played and recorded it.

The Surprise

Someone at that birthday party quietly began collecting his partner’s favourite songs. Months later, at her surprise party, she started recognizing them one after another: “I love this song… and this one… and this one… These are all my favourite songs.”

Getting to Know Someone

When my partner shared her list with me, it became another way to know her more deeply. At her birthday party, I played the songs that mattered to her, shaped into one continuous story.

Their Party

The first paid A Special Request came from someone who wanted to throw their party, not somebody else’s. They brought the music that belonged to them. I turned it into a night that felt unmistakably theirs.

What this proves

Your event should sound like you.

Your favourites are not instructions I mechanically follow. They are clues. They help me understand your history, your taste and the feeling you want to create.

From there, I mix, read the room and build something that belongs to that night alone.

Weddings · private parties · corporate events

Let’s make the room feel like yours.
